Color trends of 2023

As for the year 2023, it is already set to be the year of warm and natural hues. Fashion experts predict a wide range of colors to dominate your environment. Fashion is a highly subjective industry that brings fresh color palettes for every season that are carefully chosen by color strategists that would associate with the ubiquitous fashion world.

Domination of Red

Red is associated with extreme emotions and heightened states- like power, passion, danger, and courage. Red was featured on runways by Alaïa, Versace, and Max Mara, as well as being worn by celebrities such as Rihanna and Bella Hadid. Coloro points to Luscious Red, while Pantone's most striking shade is Barbados Cherry, dubbed as named one of 2023’s most striking shades.

The graphic shades

Graphic shades such as Pantone’s Zesty love bird and tangelo pairing are used to encourage exploration and experimentation with positivity, and vivid and vibrant hues. As the world emerges from the gray days of pandemic rules and restrictions, fashion designers, artists, and illustrators are exploring newfound freedom through outrageous shades and shocking color combinations.

Hot pink

Hot pink taps into the Y2K resurgence. This sees sickly sweet shades of pink, purple, and lilac being given a Noughties twist. This is something you can achieve with a pair of synthetic pants or short skirts that will resemble a retro video game. If you’re nostalgic for rollerblades and bumbags, pick up tips on recreating the Barbie look.

Beachy vibes

The past few years have left us all hungry for a holiday. We can almost feel the waves lapping at our feet with shades like Coloro’s Lapis Lazuli Blue, Pantone's Blazing Yellow, and Dulux’s Golden Sands. From white parasols to sunglasses, Diesel's fashion campaign certainly turns up the heat on beachside aesthetics. We expect to see sun, sea, and sand shades extending the rays of warmth well into 2023.

Dark academia

Learning has never looked so dazzling thanks to Dark academia. With an emphasis on reading, writing, and other intellectual pursuits, this TikTok subculture gets its kicks while wearing knitted cardigans and tweed pants. Add a worn leather satchel and a book of sonnets, and you'll get the idea. Making old-school studies and dusty libraries look ultra chic, we saw this trend on-screen in the magical-fantasy movie Harry Potter. Set in a century-old establishment, all characters were dressed in a spectrum of dark hues, like mahogany brown, forest green, and midnight blue, which are complemented by lighter gold, olive, and orange tones.

Lady Liberty

Gazing out over New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty is almost 140 years old but that doesn’t mean the neoclassical sculpture can’t set today’s fashion agenda. The 93-meter-tall tall figure is covered in copper, which is oxidized when exposed to moist seawater, resulting in a visually stunning blue-green-gray color that’s catching everyone’s attention right now. Lady Liberty’s iconic greenish tinge known as verdigris is a key color trend for 2023 according to WGSN and Coloro.

Pantone’s color of the year

Described by Pantone as an unconventional red for an unconventional time, the Pantone color of the year this year is Viva magenta. The hue is said to explore the dynamic between Artificial Intelligence and human creativity and leads us into what Pantone has coined, the Magentaverse. Striking a nice balance between warm and cool, the color is meant to encourage experimentation and self-expression without restraint, pushing boundaries in an exuberant, powerful, and most importantly, optimistic way.

Coloro's color of the year

Digital lavender is a gender-inclusive color that is already established in the youth market and is expected to broaden into all fashion product categories by 2023. Color is the sensorial quality that makes it ideal for self-care rituals, healing practices, and wellness practices. Also, it promotes serenity, digital escapism, stability, and calmness.

There are a variety of color trends that are an exciting and essential aspect of the fashion industry.
